Sea Berry Lip Oil: Q&A

Sea Berry Lip Oil: Q&A

Because of their unique characteristics, our lips tend to need a little more love and care. Did you know these interesting facts?

  • The skin of the lips is one the thinnest on the body.

  • Your lips dry out quicker than other areas of the body because they don’t have oil or sweat glands (these glands play an important role in hydrating your skin in other areas).

  • The natural color of your lips is a result of being able to see the capillary network and blood flow beneath the skin, since it's so thin.

  • There's no melanin in the lips. On other parts of the body, melanin is responsible for giving your skin its pigmentation and also helps protect your skin from harmful UV rays. So your lips are more susceptible to sun damage.

I formulated Sea Berry Lip Oil an an essential for hydration, protection, and repair for this delicate area.

Sea Berry Lip Oil

When I’m at a market with Pure Luxe Apothecary, this product is one that gets a lot of interest and questions (it’s a customer favorite both at markets and online).  Here’s a Q&A of the most commonly asked questions:

Is Sea Berry Lip Oil used like a lip balm?

Lip oil is formulated specifically for the delicate skin of the lips. But unlike lip balm, it's not meant to sit on top of the lip. Balms are wonderful for protecting the skin from the outside - they create a gentle barrier to keep moisture from evaporating from the skin. But rather than 'coating' the skin with a barrier, Sea Berry Lip Oil sinks into the deeper layers of the skin, moving below the surface to promote elasticity, hydration, and healing.

When do you use it?

You can apply it as often as you like.  At a minimum I’d recommend applying at least twice a day - once in the morning and once in the evening - to bare lips. I like to apply it after brushing my teeth, and then I follow it with a balm or gloss later on as needed.

The goal is to keep the skin consistently hydrated, so any extreme conditions are much less likely to affect the lips  - like extreme cold or heat, wind, and sun. And the main thing to remember is to apply it before other lip products, to allow it to fully absorb.

How much do I put on my lips each time?

Apply a generous layer with the roller ball applicator. Enough that lips are covered and feel slippery. Press lips together and allow a few minutes for the oil to sink in.

Does it leave a tint/color on the lips?

The color of this lip oil is a beautiful pink-orange, thanks to the Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil in the formula. The oil fully absorbs into the skin, and it does not leave a color on the lips. There are no colorants added to any Pure Luxe Apothecary products, so the hue you see is simply the natural colors of the oils - straight from nature.

Useful properties to note about Sea Buckthorn Berry oil: It's high in antioxidants and vitamins, soothing to irritations, and promotes cell regeneration and skin healing. It's been used in skin remedies for thousands of years, and research shows it has protective properties against UV light damage.

What gives it its great scent?

Sea Berry Lip Oil has a lovely fresh citrus scent, thanks to the aromatic ingredients in the blend: rose, sweet orange, and coriander. The fragrance of each product is important, but these particular essential oils also provide important skin benefits, including hydrating, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial properties.

Is this ok for kids to use?

Yes! I follow careful dilution rates of essential oils in all of my formulas, so they're safe for both absorption and inhalation (the two main methods of taking in the beneficial properties of essential oils in these products). And as with all Pure Luxe products I create, the formulas are always entirely natural  - no synthetics, parabens, colorants, additives, phthalates, or preservatives.

How do I store Sea Berry Lip Oil?

Like all Pure Luxe Apothecary products, it's best to keep them away from heat source and direct sunlight. A cool, dark cabinet is best. Store the bottle standing upright to minimize the oil resting against the roller ball applicator.
